some thoughts about home office
Do you really need an office?
If you don't work from home then you need some sort of a place where you can do your your daily tasks - this could even be your dining room table. Daily office work is not fun - it's like homework for your kids - necessary but not fun. Do what you have to do and then put everything away (there are some really nice storage containers available).
Do you work from home or do you intend working from home? Then you need an office with a door you can close. Not only to be able to work concentrated but also to close the door when it's time to 'go home'.
In both cases make a list of the tasks you would like to do - determine the amount of filing space. Please keep in mind that your performance is not measured by how many stack of papers you have on your desk - actually you will be more productive if your desk is not cluttered with files and tools you don't or only rarely need.
some 'crazy' thoughts...
To find your way - you need to dream and also explore the not so usual ideas - here are some:
- the desk size should be as small as possible - just enough to put on the laptop, the actual file and some basic tools - everything else would be clutter
- consider a bar top high table to stand and work on
- keep filing cabinets to a minimum - use electronic files instead
- if you work from home then make sure you have enough natural light
ready?
